Grandma said this recipe started out back before her ancestor settled here- around the revolutionary war. The original form included a potato water starter (really- I have no idea what that means!), but instant yeast works just great. Be prepared, you need a really big bowl, about 5 pounds of flour, and a strong arm. The bread will have a wonderful, crunchy crust, and a soft, tender inside. Enjoy!
